  1. A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT They were together in the House. Just the two of them. It was a cold, dark, stormy night. The storm had come quicklyand each time the thunder boomed he watched her jump. She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance...and wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her and protect her from the storm. Suddenly, with a pop, the power went out... She screamed... He raced to the sofa where she was cowering. He didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms. He knew this was a forbidden union and expected her to pull back. He was surprised when she didn't resist but instead clung to him. The storm raged on... They knew it was wrong... Their families would never understand... So consumed were they in their FEAR that they heard no opening of doors...just the faint click of a camera......

    LOL!! excellent!!!
  3. I believe this photo was taken from a helicopter stormy. There are no buildings this tall in Halifax. I should have also mentioned the tunnels connecting Citadel Hill to George's Island, McNab's Island and Dartmouth on the other side of the harbour. They were used to run munitions and supplies to the forts from the Armories seen in the foreground (large brown brick building with a castle like appearance). That building is still in use today by the military. As you can see from the layout of the Islands, it would have been very difficult for the enemy to get a ship in past them.
  4. Here is a photo of Historic Citadel Hill I just got from a good friend. Citadel Hill is also known as "Fort George" There is also George's Island which can be seen at the top of the photo (the small island). The large Island is McNabs Island. More on the hill can be found on wiki: Fort George (named after King George II of Great Britain) is a National Historic Site in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and was established during Father Le Loutre's War to protect the protestant settlers against raids by the French, Acadians, and Wabanaki Confederacy (primary the Mi'kmaq). A series of four different defensive fortifications have occupied the summit of Citadel Hill since this time, with the construction and levelling resulting in the summit of the hill being dropped by ten to twelve metres. The first fort was simply a small redoubt which stood near the summit with a flagstaff and guardhouse.[1] No traces of any regular or permanent fortification appear on Citadel Hill until the commencement of the American Revolution. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citadel_Hill_%28Fort_George%29 Georges Island (named after George II of Great Britain) is a glacial drumlin and the largest island entirely within the harbour limits of Halifax Harbour located in Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality. The Island is the location of Fort Charlotte - named after King George's wife Charlotte. Fort Charlotte was built during Father Le Loutre's War, a year after Citadel Hill (Fort George). The island is now a National Historic Site. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George%27s_Island,_Halifax McNabs Island is the largest island in Halifax Harbour located in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. It played a major role in defending Halifax Harbour and is now a provincial park. The island was first settled in 1780s by Peter McNab, and McNab family members lived on the island until 1934.[2] Peter McNab's brother Captain John McNab, Nova Scotia Fencibles, lived with his daughter Catherine Susan Ann McNabb on McNab's Island. She married Joseph Howe on February 2, 1828.[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McNabs_Island
  5. A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am." The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude." She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican." "I am," replied the man. "How did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me." The man smiled and responded, "You must be a Democrat." "I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?" "Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but, somehow, now it's my fault."
  6. The cabinet is perfect so I'll leave that as is. Perhaps a good rub down with some lemon oil and that's it
  7. after replacing a few shorted capacitors here is the result. now I'll go ahead and replace all the caps in this set. 31 in total. Note most of the distortion is coming from the television analyst I just picked up. It was built in the early '50s and needs an over haul too.
  8. Here is the Electrohome set pulled from it's cabinet and on the test bench.
  9. what they do koach is make my hobby a whole lot easier
  10. Here is a photo of my test bench (don't mind the mess :$ ). I still have more test equipment and stock to sort and find a place to put.
  11. Here is a lil 10" Admiral built in 1956 to mimic the '55 chevy (note the hood ornament handle and color scheme). This set will get the same treatment my other sets get (NOS tube set, re-cap, etc.) plus some more updating and modifying of the power supply to make this set safe to use. One side of the AC line is connected directly to the chassis (no power transformer) and the power cord is non polarized. This means that there is the possibility of getting a nasty shock should the chassis side be conneted to the hot lead. I'll also add a fuse and eliminate the selnium rectifiers replacing them with the modern silicon type. This will be a fun set to restore and use!! I plan to change the color scheme to a 55 chev red/orange and white. I find that scheme much more attactive. The following link is what the end result will be http://www.flickr.co...86676/lightbox/
  12. This is the chassis pulled from the set. This will get the same treatment as the RCA. New tube set, all wax/paper capacitors replaced and any off value resistors replaced. This chassis is more organized and a lot lighter than that of the older RCA. It's hard to see in the photo of the underside but there is a 2 watt resistor that is burned and cracked in two as a result of a wrong tube installed. I'll have to correct that prior to powering this set up.
  13. Here is the chassis pulled from the set. I have some of the replacement tubes in place already. The disconnected wires in front of the power transformer are where the B+ bleeder resistor (tested open) attaches. This resistor is a very strange valued beast so I'll have to make one up that'll be a close match to the original and still supply the proper voltages to the various circuits in the set. Note all the tubular components on the under side of the chassis that look to be dripping fluid. Those are the wax/paper capacitors I'll be replacing, 32 in total. The paper deteriorates over time causing short circuits (bad news). Some folks prefer to hollow the insides of the old caps and stuff the new ones inside to maintain an origianal chassis appearance but since I plan to keep and use this set I won't be going to that extreme with this re-build. I'll also be checking the value of each and every resistor. Any that have drifted off 20% or more of their value will be replaced as well. Now where is that mail man with the replacement capacitors??
  14. Here is the Karn Pump Organ that was also discovered in the old farm house about to be destroyed. I have a few other projects on the table that I want to finish up before I tackle this one. This is going to be a massive tear down and re-build but I think the end result will be well worth the effort as I've seen this exact model sell for just under eight grand restored.
  15. Here is a set I discovered in an old farm house. The owner was about to tear the house down around it till I happened along. He was too happy to give it to me knowing I was going to restore and save it. I also saved an 1895 Karn pump organ from the same fate from that house. More on it later as that's going to be a HUGE project to refurbish. I have a complete set of NOS (new old stock) tubes for this set. The CRT isn't as good as the RCA or the Electrohome but it should turn out to be pretty decent. All the transformers test good so I am now waiting on the capacitors for this set as well.
  16. I too was surprised at the condition this set is in Star. Even the inside was spotless other than a small amount of dust. I'm looking forward to getting started on it but first I want to finish the 1948 RCA set
  17. This set is my most recent purchase. I bought it from the original owner who had it in his attic for 40+ years. Again it's all complete and no one had messed with it. The CRT (picture tube) tests like new as well. The original owner said the set was only turned on for a couple hours a week until they bought a color set then they stuffed this one in the attic. I have yet to get started on this set other than to make up a list of the tube set and capacitors for it. More on this set to come.
  18. Here is a picture of the old television I bought. This is as it was found in an attic. It's complete and untouched so it's a perfect candidate for a rebuild. I checked the picture tube and it tests like new and all the transformers also test good. I've picked up a complete set of NOS (new old stock) tubes for it and am now waiting on the replacement capacitors.

lol henry this one reminds me of my aunt and uncle one xmas. my aunt asked him what he was getting her that year. my uncle gave some thought for a few minutes and said "nothing, you didn't use what I bought for you last year!" Puzzled my aunt asked what he bought her last year that she hadn't used. His reply was "a burial plot!!". I hit the floor laughing
  21. one English cucumber, roughly chopped ½ sweet onion, peeled and roughly chopped one garlic clove, peeled and minced one bunch arugula, stems removed four ripe peaches, peeled, pitted and roughly chopped 1 tsp sugar 2 tbsp red wine vinegar salt and pepper to taste Get out the food processor, add the cucumber, onion and garlic, and blitz for a good minute or two, until everything is pretty much pureed. Add arugula and blitz again. Add peaches, sugar, vinegar, salt and pepper, and whirl it a couple of minutes more, or until soup is totally smooth. Taste for seasoning and adjust as needed.
