As some know, I lived with my family in Papua New Guinea for many years and it was an experience I will always remember with great affection. Some of you might not even know where it is, so google it It's a beautiful country just north of Australia that is home to the Melanesian people. A country of diverse landscapes, from jungle and beautiful coastlines, to the high mountains (a few that get snow in winter) where the climate is similar to spring, all year.
As I come across some interesting photos from our years there, I will post them here now and then.
Hear are some photos of a ceremony that took place on 13 May 1979 at a little place called Bena Bena which is in the mountains near the main city of Goroka. We lived there for several years. I can't remember what the compensation was for, perhaps someone from one clan had a relative who died due to an accident by a person from a different clan. They met, they talked and discussed and then an amount of money (in this case $25,000) was presented to the family receiving the compensation. The money in notes is attached to a very long pole (called a money pole) and presented to the family.

When I was younger, my father put a b&w tv in my bedroom for me, very similar to the one above, he also wired it with headphones so I could lie in bed and watch tv without keeping my parents awake lol .. it also had a swivel base so I could turn it around to face the bed

Sorry to hear it Dawn, I know you were looking forward to the challenge. I think you've done the right thing, and maybe as Koach said, there will be something else that you might like to study. Being a parent takes up a lot of time and mental energy too and we change. I know that once I was a parent I was far too busy in that role to have undertaken any serious study.

One that I would correct is "Morning Tea" - it is not called "mornos" as the guy says, I've never heard of that before. It is called "Smoko" and applies to morning and/or afternoon tea

The only thing I don't remember is Howdy Doody ... it must have been a character or "thing" specific to the USA.
I still own a metal ice tray with a lever and only this morning I was looking at the test pattern on a tv (at the museum where the IT guy was setting it up with some new video footage)
When we were in New Guinea our phone was not only a party line, but it was a radio phone with a little button on the handset so you could hold it in to talk, and release to listen to the person at the other end.
