  1. 29 years ago today we were battening down for our first cyclone experience. We had no idea it would be so powerful and do so much damage. Cyclone Uma started to pound Vila around 5pm on Saturday 7th Feb 1987 and blew Port Vila apart.

The photos are of just outside our house, the carport and paddock, our riding school "clubhouse" where people congregated before and after riding to have a drink, play darts etc and the workshop and generator shed with the big tank and stand for water that serviced the whole 120 acres.

  2. We make sweet and also savoury scones, Blondie, they are the English scones (I think in the USA scones are different)   the sweet ones break in half and serve with strawberry jam and cream, the savoury ones such as with cheese and chives, or pumpkin we would serve with butter.  They are a very popular morning or afternoon tea snack with a cuppa :)

  3. Is this a trick question?      However, as it may be genuine,  I will repeat what I've said before in similar discussions about the American beliefs on owning firearms (or any other country).

If there are laws permitting "everyone" to own firearms, I absolutely agree with Smiley's comments.  I also believe there should also be laws about the security of those weapons.  Firearms shouldn't be left on a rack or under the bed or in a place where they are easily accessible to anyone and, I can hear you groaning already, every bullet fired should be accountable.  Sure there will be the criminals who will use weapons illegally just like they do everywhere else, but if the general, law abiding population want to have firearms they should be responsible and have them secured so that nobody else can easily use them.

I would hope that all those hunters who just loving killing deer and other animals for the thrill of the chase (and I don't include the farmers who use a firearm to protect their stock from a predator), are also responsible users and keep their firearms under lock and key when not out hunting.  Whether I would want them protecting my country, I am not sure about that at all.

  4. Violence against women is fairly common in football circles here, as we find out when another footballer gives his wife a black eye or similar.   They get hounded out of the sport most times, even if the club they play for, try and cover over the incident.

My worry also,  is that it rarely gets mentioned that some women are just as violent against men, but they say that men being men, don't like to complain in case they are seen as a bit less manly.

Violence or abuse of any kind by one person to another, whether it be physical, psychological or just plain nasty is not acceptable
