  5. Please join us for our next chat in #readers_corner at 8:30 P.M. (EST) February 20, 2021 -- 01:30 A.M. (GMT) -- for a discussion of “The Biggest Watermelon Anybody Ever Saw” By William Saroyan. William Saroyan was hailed by Kurt Vonnegut as the “greatest of all the American minimalists” for his simple stories about childhood, the immigrant experience, and Fresno, California. Saroyan won both a Pulitzer Prize and an Academy Award. He wrote plays, novels, and short stories based on his travels across Eastern Europe and his experience of living as an Armenian immigrant in Northern California. Saroyan’s stories elicited hard-to-come-by optimism during the Great Depression, and he maintained a prolific, celebrated career until his death in 1981. 9. I'm not convinced that we have 400,000 deaths from COVID-19 alone. I don't believe anything the Government says anymore.

  11. Yes, on that website they show recoveries, however, the news sites never do, they focus on cases and deaths, just to inspired fear, so we follow the monkeys, foolish instructions.
  12. Something I have been thinking. Why does every report we read focus on Fatalities and never mentions the Recoveries? This image is from Texas a week or so back, They have totally stopped showing Recoveries. Is this simply to keep us as fearful as possible? Feel free to reply and tell me what you think below.

  22. Please join us for our next chat in #readers_corner at 8:30 P.M. (EST) January 09, 2021 -- 01:30 A.M. (GMT) -- for a discussion of "It's Just A Start" by David B. Barnes. The story is available online at: http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/UBooks/ItsJust1178.shtml Wishing all of you a much happier and more prosperous New Year. Sorry, the choice for our next chat is a bit longer than those I normally pick. However, this is the third story we've done by David and since we have two weeks, I felt it was a good time for a longer read. Mr. Barnes was a Police Officer in North Carolina for (I believe) thirty years or so and has a great feel for the seamier side of life. There is also a moral in his stories that we sometimes must seek out, but it's always there.
