The following original posting was made on 02/05/2007 by Koach when our Readers Chat was announced on Koach.com : Ernest Hemingway once wrote a short story in just six words: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn." He is said to have called it his best work. The beauty, and the horror, of Hemingway's story is that it fully stimulates our imagination using only a few words. We don't need the details; we already understand the pain and heartbreak. As Hemingway's story illustrates, the careful selection of words is a powerful way to make a point, and to share ideas and emotions. We have created a new chat room, #Readers_Corner, and this support forum, to discuss short stories. We select a story in advance, and then meet weekly in the chat room to discuss what we have read. We follow up that discussion here in the forum. The stories we select are available for reading on the internet and when we post the story, we'll also post the url. After each discussion, we'll post a log of the chat. Some of the participants may want to remain anonymous, and we'll accommodate them by replacing their names in the log. We hope you'll join us. Hi All, I thought I would post a concise list of all the stories we've read, the author's last name, when we chatted about them, and the average ranking. It's hard to believe we started in 2007 and are in our 5th year ... we have read some GREAT stories. The average ranking is fairly well documented for 2007 and the first half of 2008, then I just couldn't do it for about a year and a half, but thanks to Spike providing the logs so promptly after our chats, I have resumed recording the Average Rankings. (Some of you old timers will recall I used to post after every chat what each of the individual rankings were too). I'll try to update this list in the next few months to bring it to a current condition, or if anyone is interested in volunteering to do it instead, please let me know. Regards and see you soon. 'Gripping' Flavors Salad & Rasberry Dressing 8 cups assorted greens 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese 4 oz mandarin oranges drained 1/2 cup dried cherries or cranberries 1 small red onion - chopped fine 1/2 cup toasted pecans (350 degrees approx 5 min) Dressing: 4 tbls rasberry wine vinegar 1/2 cup canola oil 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/2 tsp Tobasco sauce 1/2 tsp salt 3-4 tbls sugar Whisk all dressing ingredients together and chill. Combine other ingredients in large bowl. Toss with dressing just before serving.

Help ! Anyone know how to make a surefire delicious stuffing ? Maybe an nice sausage one ? PS - Not to actually stuff the bird - but to bake and serve with it. Whenever I serve this warm dip (great in cool weather) I am always asked for the recipie and its so easy. The nuts are optional - I usually make 2 versions - 1 with and 1 without. Hot Virginia Dip 16 oz cream cheese 5-7 oz dried beef 1 cup sour cream 1/2 tsp garlic salt 2 tbsp milk (if needed) 4 tbsp minced fresh onion 2 tbsp butter 1 cup chopped pecans Mix cream cheese and sour cream. Chop dried beef into very small pieces and add to mixture. Use milk if needed to thin. Add salt and onion. Saute pecans in butter. Put cheese mixture in pie plate or other ovenproof dish. Sprinkle pecans on top. Heat at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. (May be reheated). Serve with crackers.
