Please join us for our next chat in #readers_corner at 8:30 P.M. (EDST) on August 5th, 2017 [12:30 A.M. (GMT)], August 6th, for a discussion of Company G by Jack Trammell.  The story is of the many good (and some not quite so good) on -line short stories from eastoftheweb.com.  It's a well told historical fiction story that could have happened during the siege of Petersburg, Virginia by Union troops just prior to the surrender of Lee at Appomattox.

For our non-American chatters and those of our younger members who may not have been taught the history of our Civil War as ancient history painted in the most recent politically correct colors, the War between the State (known as the War to Save the Union by the North and the War of Yankee Aggression by the South) ended shortly after the fall of Petersburg and subsequent surrender of General Lee to the Union Forces under General Grant.  The siege of Petersburg was a protracted affair where the Army of Northern Virginia (the largest Confederate military force) suffered near starvation before attempting to break out of the siege and flee to the West to join forces with the remnants of the Confederate forces still fighting in the Mississippi River area.

This tale tells of one small contingent of the Confederate soldiers and their attempts to find food during the siege.  I think you will enjoy it.

The story is available on line at:  http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/UBooks/CompG.shtml

As usual, the chat will be in the #readers_corner chat room on Koach.com
