Smiley Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 We will skip postpone next week's normal chat until November 1, 2014. The postponement is due to two factors: the unavailablility of some of our regulars on the normal chat night and the choice of a lengthy (97 page) story as the subject for that chat. With that in mind, please join us at 8:30 P.M. (EDST) on November 1, 2014 (0030 November 2d (GMT), in #readers_corner, for a discussion of the story: Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes. The short story, written in 1958 and first published in the April 1959 issue of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction won the Hugo Award for the Best Short Story in 1960. The story was expanded into a novel in 1966 and was the joint winner of that year's Nebula Award for Best Novel.. The story proved the basis for the movie "Charlie" which won the 1968 Oscar for Actor Cliff Robertson. The story is available on line at several sites as a downloadable pdf file, a kindle and e-reader file, or just plain good, old text format.
